You can have fun and learn together by doing fun family activities. Many items around the house can be used to explore you and your family’s artistic and scientific side.
1. Game Time
- Board Games
Try a classic game to keep your family away from screens. Playing board games at home is a fun way to relax and spend time with your family.
- Card Games
Card games can be a great way to challenge young minds and create hours of fun indoors. One deck of cards is enough to entertain everyone for hours. Teach your children to play or ask them to suggest a game. Some of the most memorable moments with your family are spent playing cards late at night.
2. Story-telling
This trick will give a fresh twist to your old stories and help you to make them more interesting. Start by reading a favorite book of your child’s. As you reach a crucial point in the story challenge your children to take control of it and add their own twist. This encourages children to be creative. Adults can talk about real people who are similar to characters from stories they’ve read. You can be sure that your children will not want to stop you!
3. Cooking Together
Spend the day making your favorite family recipe. Assigning tasks to your assistant chefs will make cooking more fun. One child may enjoy mixing, while another may prefer to measure ingredients. You can assign tasks based on their preferences. They will feel proud that they contributed to something. You’ll also get to cook for the rest of the day.
4. Movie Marathon
Nothing is better than a family movie marathon with snacks and your children! Everybody loves to watch their favorite movies and eat their favorite snacks. Transform your family room into a personal theater. Select a movie that the entire family will enjoy, and then settle down to watch it. Once the movie has ended, you can move onto the next film on the list of most requested movies!
5. Art and Craft Session
Grab the paint, glitter, and crayons and let everyone show their creativity. Give your children the chance to explore their creative side. You can do anything with a simple craft or art idea. You can try out easy DIY ideas, which you can do with the items that you have at hand. It’s a win for everyone, since they’re all doing their part to save the planet while also keeping themselves busy. What do you hear? You’re probably hearing laughter, concentration and fun. Not a child screaming “I’m bored!”
6. Dance Party
Who doesn’t enjoy a good family dance party? This is a great way to get everyone moving and have fun. It takes no planning. Amazing tunes can help release everyone’s energy. Dance around your house to burn off pent up energy and get some exercise. The heavier the music, the better. Make it a friendly dance competition.
7. Science Experiments
It may seem impossible to teach your children about science. There are many fun, easy, and interactive science projects that families can do to learn and understand some of the fundamental principles of nature. You probably didn’t realize that a boiled egg or raw egg can be made into a self-peeling one with a cup and vinegar. It sounds simple, interesting, and fun! The whole family will have tons of fun if they work together to do any of these fun science experiments.
8. Gardening
The best type of activity is one that engages and promotes curiosity and self expression. Consider gardening as an example. Gardening with your family can have many benefits, such as encouraging healthy eating habits, teaching responsibility and patience, or even something small, like taking care of a tiny succulent.
9. Family Photo Shoot
The best memories that we have with our family are the ones that we cherish the most. We all hold on to our sweet memories through family photos. Why not take advantage of the fact that your entire family is together at home and do a photoshoot inside? It’s not necessary to hire a professional photographer. You only need some fun outfits and props. Go ahead and pose in the most ridiculous of poses, put the camera on auto-timer, and say “cheese”!
10. Indoor Gym
You can find many simple props around the house that will help you burn some energy. You can place a rope to represent a balance beam on the floor. Kids can walk on the rope with fun props like a box or a toy animal. The floor can also be made into lava by arranging a few cushions or towels. Kids love to jump and run to avoid the imaginary fiery pit.
You can burn calories by doing donkey kicks with an adult chair placed against a wall. Use chairs and water bottles to improve your squats. The activities below will help everyone learn something new, and develop a skill they may not have had before!
